In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS)
Getting help in your home
IHSS provides older adults with low incomes and people with disabilities (including children) support in their homes. These services may be free, or the client may pay part of the cost depending on countable income.
For many people, this extra help can enable them to live more independently and stay at home instead of a residential care facility.

IHSS services may include:
- Household chores, such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry
- Personal care services, such as dressing, bathing, and feeding
- Transportation and accompaniment to medical appointments
- Protective supervision, and
- Paramedical services as ordered by a physician
