Claims Services
The Veteran Services Office (VSO) provides information and assistance for United States Department of Veteran Affairs (USDVA) claims and performs the actions needed to advance those claims. Services include filing claims and appeals, responding to development letters, helping Veterans complete applications or gather evidence, checking claim status, and performing follow-ups or reminders tied to a claim or claim activity. Additionally, the VSO provides information and assistance with California Department of Veteran Affairs benefits to include the College Tuition Fee Waiver Program and Veteran Status Designation.
Claim services may lead to compensation for service-connected disabilities, non-service connected pension payments, enrollment in VA Healthcare, burial benefits, survivor benefits or educational benefits.
Visitors
The Veteran’s Services office provides assistance to our clients during scheduled appointments both in person and over the phone.
Monthly and Retroactive Awards
Monthly awards are tax-free recurring cash benefit provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to eligible veterans, dependents, or eligible surviving family members. These payments are typically awarded for service-connected disabilities (disability compensation), financial need (pension), or specific specialized circumstances (Special Monthly Compensation/Pension – SMC (SMP)). A VA retroactive award (or back pay) is a lump-sum payment issued to a veteran, or eligible dependents, to compensate for disability benefits or pension owed between an approved claim’s effective date and the date the claim is awarded. It represents accumulated, unpaid benefits due to processing delays or successful appeals.
