Click\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Housing options that are available to emerging adults\" href=\"https:\/\/vcportal.venturacounty.gov\/hsa\/docs\/brochures\/pdf\/2013\/2013-08-14_HousingOptions.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"Click here for a comparison of various options\" data-uw-rm-ext-link=\"\" data-uw-rm-vglnk=\"\" data-uw-pdf-br=\"1\" data-uw-pdf-doc=\"\">here<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0for a comparison of various options.<\/p><h2 role=\"heading\" data-uw-rm-heading=\"level\"><strong>Extended Foster Care Placement Options<\/strong><\/h2><p>Emerging adults who reach agreements with their current foster families to continue living with them will transition into one of two placement arrangements depending on the level of independent living skills demonstrated by the emerging adult:<\/p><p><strong>Foster Family \u2013 Extended Foster Care<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 appropriate for emerging adults who need more time to develop their independent living skills.<\/p><p>Emerging adults who reach agreements with their current foster families to continue living with them, but who need more time to develop their independent living skills, will enter into a Foster Family \u2013 Extended Foster Care placement arrangement. Under this arrangement,\u00a0<strong>the foster parents will continue to receive the approved basic rate\u00a0<\/strong>(plus any other allowable special reimbursements).<\/p><p><strong>Supervised Independent Living \u2013 Extended Foster Care<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 reserved for emerging adults with adequate independent living skills.<\/p><p>Emerging adults who reach agreements with their current foster families to continue living with them, and who have adequate independent living skills, will enter into a \u201csupervised independent living \u2013 extended foster care\u201d arrangement. Under this arrangement,\u00a0<strong>the emerging adult can receive the approved basic rate<\/strong>\u00a0(plus any other allowable special reimbursements).<\/p><p>When considering these placement options, the emerging adult shall complete a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vcportal.venturacounty.gov\/HSA\/docs\/brochures\/pdf\/VC_SILPReadinessAssessment_08022012.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"Supervised Independent Living Program Readiness Assessment - opens in new tab\" data-uw-rm-ext-link=\"\" data-uw-pdf-br=\"1\" data-uw-pdf-doc=\"\">Supervised Independent Living Program Readiness Assessment<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0jointly with their social worker.<\/p><p>Financial arrangements for both types of placements as well as agreements for curfew times, chores, and other such household \u201crules\u201d will vary according to the decisions reached by each household. Children &amp; Family Services social workers will be available to help facilitate conversations, as needed, and agreements will be documented in the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vcportal.venturacounty.gov\/HSA\/docs\/brochures\/pdf\/Mutual%20Agreement%20for%20Foster%20Care%20SOC162.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"Mutual Agreement for Extended Foster Care - opens in new tab\" data-uw-rm-ext-link=\"\" data-uw-pdf-br=\"1\" data-uw-pdf-doc=\"\">Mutual Agreement for Extended Foster Care<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p><p>Transitioning from childhood to adulthood while living in the same household will no doubt present growth opportunities for both emerging adults and their foster parents. Under this arrangement, they will receive a monthly payment from the County, and may select any apartment or house they would like, as long as the property meets basic health and safety standards.<\/p><p>Emerging adults will be responsible for participating in interviews with prospective landlords, asking questions to assess the security of the home and making housing decisions in line with their financial, transportation, and other goals. Children &amp; Family Services social workers will be available to help make decisions and facilitate conversations, if needed, with potential landlords.<\/p><p>Each emerging adult may reach a different financial agreement with his\/her landlord. For example, one rental agreement may lay out a plan to pay a portion of his\/her monthly payment from the County to the landlord as rent. Another rental agreement may outline a sliding scale for rent that depends on work earnings or school expenses.
