href=\"\/human-services-agency\/after-eighteen\/about-ab12\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"Assembly Bill 12 (AB12) - opens in new tab\" data-uw-rm-ext-link=\"\" data-uw-rm-brl=\"PR\" data-uw-original-href=\"https:\/\/www.venturacounty.gov\/human-services-agency\/after-eighteen\/about-ab12\/\">Assembly Bill 12 (AB12)<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;was signed into law in September 2010 giving foster youth the option to remain in foster care and receive services and support until age 21. Due to this bill,&nbsp;young adults are allowed to remain in Extended Foster Care after they turn 18.<\/p>\n<p>Turning 18 means new choices and opportunities! Participants can receive help with their education and employment goals, as well as have time to develop lasting relationships with caring adults.<\/p>\n<p>These \u201cemerging adults\u201d are allowed to remain in care after their 18th birthday, enabling them to maintain a support system through their transition to adulthood. Ventura County is using the term \u201cemerging adults\u201d to describe 18- to 20-year-olds who are eligible to participate in Extended Foster Care.
